Maybe” is the first single off Jazz / R&B / Pop singer/songwriter Sarah Kang’s upcoming EP and is our first #KOTW.

In this semi-weekly blog series, we post our favorite new or re-discovered releases in independent music, our Keepsake of the Week, or #KOTW.

Within the first few seconds, Sarah Kang’s newest song “Maybe” immediately takes you into a hazy, ethereal world. Produced by Patrick Hizon and the first single off her upcoming EP, this is one of Sarah’s most raw and honest releases yet.

The emotion behind the lines of this song are viscerally relatable, especially for those who struggle with mental health, as Sarah has mentioned when speaking about the inspiration behind the song. “This long stretch of winter between the holidays and spring is always a hard season for me because of seasonal depression. I wrote this song as a way to externally process these feelings of listlessness and wanting to just disappear,” she wrote about the release on Instagram.

In particular, “I felt so much, I felt nothing at all” so beautifully captures the feeling of numbness and being trapped, sentiments I’ve often struggled with in my own journey with anxiety and depression. And the musical world created around these lyrics—full of gentle keys, synths, and beats that build the song gently along with Sarah’s angelic voice—makes the song all the more poignant and beautiful.

Stream “Maybe” now on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, and more.
